Port Blair, Nov. 1: It is a proud moment for the Islanders as M Tanish a young chess player from A & N islands has opened his international Chess Rating as per the latest International Rating list published on 31st October 2023 by the World Chess Federation (FIDE).

Port Blair, Nov. 1: CITU has reiterated its demand for immediate revision of minimum wages for scheduled employment in Andaman & Nicobar Islands.  In a letter sent to the Lt Governor, A & N Islands, B. Chandrachoodan, General Secretary, CITU A & N State Committee, referring to his earlier letters on the subject, has stated that the minimum wages was last revised in 2017 with effect from 1.1.2018. Though the revision was due from 1.1.2023, the Administration intentionally delayed the process of revision and the proposal is still pending with the Administration. CITU General Secretary told the Lt Governor that the recommendation of the Chairman of the Minimim Wages Advisory Committee was submitted long back and the file is reportedly shuttling from one office to other, thereby delaying the revision of minimum wages for the last 10 months.  

A disturbing video has been circulating in social media, wherein one individual is seen to be in an act denigrating the religious sentiments of a particular community. It is also claimed that the person involved is a Muslim.

At the outset, All the Muslim Organizations and Andaman Moplah Service Organization of the Islands categorically condemn the act of the individual and would like to exhort that such acts do not have any place in our religion. Islam is a peaceful religion, which values the feelings of self and that of others without any basis of religion, caste, creeed, language, or other barriers.

Port Blair, Nov. 1: The Department of Art & Culture, Andaman & Nicobar Administration organized a cultural exchange program in the auditorium of TGCE for the school and college students of UT of Ladakh and A&N Islands on the occasion of Foundation Day of Ladakh today. A 6 member delegation from UT of Ladakh is on a 7 days tour to the Islands. The students from Ladakh presented vibrant dances and songs, showcasing their rich cultural heritage and traditions, whereas the students of the Islands from Govt. Model SSS, Govt. Girls SSS, Govt.SSS Haddo Telugu Medium, volunteers of Nehru Yuva Kendra and Teachers Trainees of TGCE presented various folk dances of India highlighting the composite culture of the Islands.

Port Blair, Nov. 1: PS Billiground showcased community spirit and fitness by organizing a half marathon on theme “Run for Unity” with school students in honor of Police Commemoration Day and Birth Anniversary of Late Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel on National Integration Day on 31/10/2023. The event saw 150 students actively participating, promoting unity and commemorating the Police. The marathon started at Swadesh Nagar School and concluded at Billiground Bazaar by symbolizing a collective commitment to both physical well-being and solidarity within the community. The event witnessed presence of Shri Suresh Mazumdar, DEO Mayabunder.The active participation of 150 students underscored the community's commitment to both fitness and solidarity. This initiative aligns with the ethos of commemorating the sacrifices of the Police and promoting unity among citizens shown by legendary Late Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel.
